Researching, writing and creating art, demand levels of solitude and quiet that sometimes jar with my passion for communication and interaction. This is one of the reasons I love public speaking!
All my illustrated talks, whether on the Criminal Justice System, the Second World War, Germany’s culture of Remembrance, the emerging field of inherited trauma/guilt, or the humble ‘empty chair’ in art
- present viewpoints from the ‘other side’ of familiar narratives.
- reveal perspectives that lie between, beyond and beneath the apparent facts.
- demonstrate the role the arts can play in bringing about personal, cultural, societal and systemic healing and change.
- leave audiences of all ages and interests with plenty to think about.
My talks generally last for 45mins - 1 hour, but can be adapted to fit individual timeframes.
“Exceptionally good, even by NAM's high standards.”

“At nearly 86 my wife and I do not expect to have transformational experiences, but your talk was just that.”
Arts Society audience member
Incredibly interesting to hear perspectives I had never thought about before. Kept an entire year of teenagers engaged, we were all fascinated.
