15th May, 17.00 – 19.00 (UK time) – 43. Gesprächslabor, PAKH: The Study Group on Intergenerational Consequences of the Holocaust
In this German-language online event for PAKH members and with the 80th Anniversary of VE Day in mind, I will be exploring the intergenerational legacy of German soldiers. Unlike the military in Britain and much of the rest of the world, the German Wehrmacht soldiers who fought and died in WW2 are not remembered or honoured. Their legacy is largely one of silence and/or shame. But what impact does this have on their descendants? Drawing on my own experiences outlined in my book, In My Grandfather’s Shadow, we will be discussing how such a destructive legacy can be transformed into constructive, reconciliatory approaches and positive actions.
